Traffic control will soon go hi-tech in NE’s biggest city

In the city of Guwahati, manual traffic control will soon be a thing of the past as a new system will be implemented to monitor and control vehicular movement. The 74 manually handled traffic junctions in the city will be upgraded to the hitech integrated traffic management system itms by March. The guwahati smart city limited gscl which is implementing the rs 80crore itms project installed 20 traffic junctions on gs road last year were inaugurated by cm himanta biswa sarma in August. Urban affairs minister ashok singhal said control and management of vehicular movement in the city will be systematic and smooth with the completion of the project. "The project will reduce the deployment of traffic personnel at junctions, the automatic system fitted with traffic signal lights and cctv surveillance will also help in mitigating traffic congestion in the city."
